Why this work

“When I read Haroun and the Sea of Stories there were so many parts which I could see illustrated that it was a challenge to decide what exactly to put on the poster. In the end I went with the moment when Haroun, accompanied by Iff the Water Genie, flying on Butt the Hoopoe, first spy the Sea of Stories. This is the first moment when Haroun enters a new and magical world and I wanted to convey that sense on wonder with my illustration. I worked in watercolor and many of the patterns are inspired by traditional Indian textiles.”
