About the artist: Liat Yanivfrom Israel

Liat lived in Japan, travelled through Alaska and even spent six month in Denmark, but it doesn’t thrill her half as much as collecting, cutting and gluing newspaper cuts for a new illustration or a doll. She loved her time as a student and is always excited to learn more. She finds the internet a great place for being updated, but the real world is “when I‘m going outside, talking with people, sharing a new idea, taking a good sandwich or a chocolate dessert and sitting with my friend in the park” she says. Some days are good, some are better. But when deep in a working process she doesn’t mind neither.

Why this work

“Going on a vacation was on my mind. The idea of true gentlemen with a lot of style in a boat on a river sounds romantic and peaceful. These three, though, are more childish than gentlemen. Laughing about everything, mostly themselves. I wanted to hug the book (like a cover does) in a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere saying nothing about the comic nature of the situation they are about to run into. A good book will hug you and take you hand by hand on a vacation. Slowly, you will be transferred to a different and surprising world. All the colours are cut out from a daily newspaper, simple paper and plastic glue.”
