Why this work

“Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter was a fitting book choice. Ultimately, I chose this novel to re-cover because I loved the motifs and philosophy tangled within the plot. Throughout the novel, the adulteress symbol of the “A” is hard to avoid. Naturally, the “A” is featured on most covers of The Scarlet Letter, but I wanted to treat it metaphorically. As Hester and Pearl eventually accept their social identities, I stylized the “A” from tissue paper, resembling the pair. This “A” is inlaid into the chest of Reverend Dimmsdale as a mark of his guilt.”
